"Fashions fade, style is eternal." —Yves Saint Laurent

Let’s take a little dive into 2024’s favorite trends. We are moving away from the hell pit full of micro trends, wacky colors and cheap patterns, and moving into an era of timelessness; taking inspiration from our favorite 90s fashion icons. The fashion trends we are seeing in 2024 have fluctuated in and out of style since the 1940s so, will they last now?

The ballet flat

I never thought I would be able to look someone in the eyes and say “i loveeee those shoes” in reference to a ballet flat. I remember rolling my eyes as a little girl when my mother bought another pair of what I thought were ugly ballet flats. Too much pain for so little beauty. But here we are in 2024.

The ballet flat has taken the fashion world by storm with the feminine chic look. You can dress these babies up or down with a cute baggy jean, little top look or dress them up with skirts, dresses and the like. Nostalgia plays a big role in this unexpected comeback with styles rooted in 90s and early 2000s fashion. Miss Kate Moss, fashion icon, herself has been wearing them since her beginning.

However, the question now is whether this comeback will last. With the history of ballet flats as everyday footwear starting in the 1950s and worn by icons Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, and Princess Diana, I think it is safe to say these shoes will be in your closet forever. They are certified timeless and chic. I think now the only thing to determine is what colors, and styles will remain timeless.

Ganni’s ballet flat line is seen in silver and gold chrome, denim, snake print, cheetah etc. I think a statement shoe like that is a wonderful way to show your individuality within style; however, this goes with the risk of them going out of style in several years, or even months. A chic, solid colored ballet flat might be the way to go if you are looking to build your closet for longevity. Here are some that we loved:

Cheetah print

Cheetah print has always been embraced in the fashion world. Photos from the 40s and 50s depict women in cheetah print gowns and jackets. The print was then adopted by punk rockers and pop stars all throughout the 1970s through the 90s and early 2000s.

I believe that most of the trends we are seeing today are recurring from our favorite 90s fashion icons. This print was seen on slip dresses, oversized coats, and large funky accessories. All which I would wear today. However there is a fine line between chic and cheap when it comes to this pattern. So what constitutes cheetah chic?

Many fashion experts suggest that all cheetah print can be chic when it is styled right. Paired with the right colors such as deep reds, and berry shapes, jewel tones, rich chocolate browns and blacks can elevate the look immensely and help you avoid looking “tacky”. It is also important to remember to never over accessorize when it comes to the cheetah. Believe me when I say this was a difficult adjustment for me as well. I always thought more was better when it came to making a statement through accessorizing. However, in this instance, the pattern is the statement. So don’t overthink it!

Cowboy Boots

This is my absolute favorite trend that has come out of 2020s fashion. So many different styles, colors, and designs, to choose from. They bring the cutest and most unique flair to literally any outfit under the sun and their versatility make it possible for many different people with different styles to wear them. With the resurgence in vintage western aesthetics where people are embracing more eclectic and rugged looks. (Which reminds me I need to find a bolo tie).                                                                                                                Nothing beats short shorts, with a babydoll top and some cowgirl boots. The shape and heel creates a sophisticated look without being too fancy. British Vogue said it best themselves, “it feels like a perfect wear-all-day shoe that bridges the gap between a sneaker and a summer heel.” Cowboy boots were my savior when it came to dressing up. I’ve never felt cuter than the day I decided to pair my cowgirl boots with a dress and I fear I might never go back.

Don’t forget to accessorize your boots with long chunky socks or leg warmers.

The Baggy Jean

How did we go from never wanting any space between our pant fabric and our leg to never having enough? Ten years ago I could never imagine wearing anything other than a skinny pair of jeans. Now I won’t even touch them. I feel like baggy jeans offer a more relaxed look with a much more comfortable fit. The looser fit offers more versatility with the possibility to dress them up with a fancy top and ballet flats or dress them down with a t-shirt and  tennis shoes. Dare I say, you could even pair them with cowboy boots?

There is just something about oversized clothing that makes you feel more confident and laid back. I never skip out on a new style of baggy jeans – here are some of my favorite:
